Under Pressure [20120328|15:38]

The bloke is currently attending the Planet Under Pressure conference in the London Excel centre in the Docklands. As part of its commitment to finding sustainable solutions to global resource problems, the 5000-odd conference delegates are not being served meat at any of the meals.

On the inaugural Monday, they were given chickpea and roast pepper sandwiches for lunch before breaking out into various sessions.

Five thousand people. Chickpeas. Roast peppers. Small meeting rooms. I'm sure this makes for an interesting scaled-down illustration of the effects of greenhouse gas emissions. Planet Under Pressure, indeed.

I really needed that just after reading a discussion of the effects of systematic buggery on the sonic quality of farts and the implications thereof for the interpretation of Aristophanes' "Knights".

James Davidson "The Greeks and Greek Love", London 2007 p115

Also the index entry
"farts - see Thornton"

Almost in the Paul Hamos class that index I think.

Chris went to a conference once where they were all served asparagus for lunch. He said you could smell the men's before even reaching the door.
