Today, I celebrate Caturday with memories of our beloved Sputnik. We got him when he was six weeks old. During his two and a half years, he fell into a scalding hot bath, cut his paw open on a barbed wire fence, had to fight with his greedier big brother for every mouthful of gooshy food or drink of milk, got stuck in trees and rafters and didn't hesitate to go after prey larger than himself. Perhaps he spent his nine lives a little more quickly than he should have.

He was much loved, petted and spoiled. His humans would have preferred to have kept him to a ripe old age but are grateful for the time they had him. I hope he sleeps well under the rowan tree.

This is when you're really glad you take lots and lots of photos.

So many cute photos! And while he lived a short life, it was a very full life!

Yes. He certainly could boast of more squirrel kills in his 2.5 years than most cats can!

Me too. I'm grateful I made an effort to take photos and/or videos of him and Telstar at least once a week.

I think most people would be grateful to know that Professors Tinycat were not on their tenure committees.

There are so many great, and cute, photographs there. You're far better at photographing cats and kittens than me!

It's good to have so many great memories. I tend to think that we all live on in the memories of are friends, families and acquaintances, and clearly you're not going to forget him.

I'm glad that my two can be nervous as little nervous things, and whilst I've seen Kai cross the quiet road in front of the house, he doesn't much like cars, so scarpers at the slightest hint of one.

The little furry buggers get under our skins, but I think we give them pretty good lives, and probably far more luxurious ones than they'd get as wild animals.

Prime lens + good lighting + tripod (if they're sitting still) + wide aperture, that's the trick with kittehs!

I'm sure Sputnik had a good life. He had his pick of soft beds and his fair share of gooshy food, milk and other treats. I only wish it hadn't been so short. :/

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I'm sad the cat has passed beyond the veil. Sputnik sounded and looked like he was quite a wonderful cat.

He had a lot of personality (as does his brother) and he wasn't afraid to share it. We miss him.

Thank you for sharing the lovely photos of Professor Tinycat. Even though I only knew him through photos, I'll miss seeing his little white nose popping up on your LJ. Poor Telstar, he must miss him awfully.

Telstar has developed an odd howling ritual in the middle of the night. Mercifully, it's quite short, but I suspect it's a call for his missing brother. :/

Oh my, just realized what happened, I am so sorry for your family's loss. :( Losing a fuzzly loved one is always difficult. He clearly had a wonderful life with you, the bloke, and his brother. Poor Telstar, I can only imagine how much he misses his brother and partner in crime. My thoughts are with you! (Sending hugs across the pond). We have almost lost our little kitty Malcolm twice now to illness.

Thank you for the kind words. Telstar is learning to cope with being the only cat but I think he feels a bit lonely sometimes. I hope Malcolm stays well!
