Sputnik at work [20110626|17:25]

Sputnik was being particularly adorable today. He kept coming in and flopping on the kitchen floor, rolling over on his back and mewing plaintively. The message was clear. "Mommmmm. It's too hooooot! Too hot for fur-coat-wearers! I'm hooooot!"

Trainee sommelier kitteh scorns the suggestion that he might need more practice before he goes looking for a job.

I suppose you might be allowed to touch my stick.

However, it is too hot. So my stick and I will go for a lounge in the shade of this bench. You must amuse yourself for a while.

Look, I know I'm beautiful. That beauty requires hours of uninterrupted napping to maintain. Stop papping me so I can get on with it.

Your cats are so cute! And have such personalities!

And I hear you on the hot weather! We have a water bottle that we use to spray them when they're getting into things that they shouldn't, and you know it's hot, when they just sit there and take the spray!

They're still very young. I predict that Sputnik is going to evolve into a curmudgeon, while Telstar will remain bimbling and forgetful.

You're much better about disciplining your cats than I am. The bloke is always chastising me for being very bad at scolding them.

Oh I dunno, sommelier kitty has the snooty expression down pat, if you've got that you can pretty much wing the rest as long as you don't claim you can taste grapes.

Also, he comes pre-dressed for black tie occasions.

Talisker will come in sometimes, and he's sooo hot, he's clearly been lying in the sun and absorbing the heat! (He's 100% black).

I felt quite sorry for a lab that was tied up outside Waitrose in Gloucester Road arcade this morning. Even though it was in the shade, it was flat against the floor, tongue out panting, and clearly feeling hard done by, with the weather! I really felt quite sympathetic, although there's little you can do for an animal who has a built in fur coat. :)

My sisters cats, who are stupid, will run around playing until they overheat, and will then actually sit and pant, like dogs, which I find somewhat amusing!

I found Sputnik in the windowsill the other morning, lying in in a patch of sunshine that was clearly baking his brains to a crisp. Silly mammal!

He knows how to charm his way into treats, and out of trouble, that's for sure.
