Painting the baby spacecraft: Completion [20110612|22:08]

[with a hint of |Covenant - Theremin]

I finished painting the baby Cluster spacecraft!

In brief: 2 coats black ink on the engines. 3 thin washes royal blue on the solar panels, followed by 1 wash of black ink, 1 wash light blue, 1 wash royal blue and dry-brushing with white. Metallic silver on the gaps between panels. Top details received additional coats of metallic gold.

For those who might be interested in such things, I include the main playlist for this effort behind the cut. I tend to listen to the same set of songs on repeat while I'm painting.

Nachtmahr - Tanzdiktator
Covenant - Stalker (club version)
Nine Inch Nails - The Day the Whole World Went Away
Logic feat. Shadia Mansour - So Serious
Covenant - Call the Ships to Port (club version)
The Narcycist - P.H.A.T.W.A.
Empirion - Narcotic Influence
Nachtmahr - Mädchen In Uniform
Nine Inch Nails - Into the Void
How To Destroy Angels - A Drowning
Nachtmahr - I Believe In Blood
Rammstein - Du Hast
Laibach - Tanz Mit Laibach
Eisenfunk - Pong
Tricky - Hell Is Around the Corner
How To Destory Angels - The Space in Between
Nine Inch Nails - Right Where It Belongs
Nachtmahr - Nachtmahr

...I just realized that this list doesn't look very cheerful even if you don't know the songs. I swear, I was having a great time.

They look just adorable! How long will you have to sit on them until they hatch into full-grown spacecraft?

Also on a big HTDA kick at the mo. I blame having to take the bus on a regular basis :)

Sit on them! Perish the thought. *protectively cuddles the baby spacecraft*

They're about 1/40th the size of the spacecraft. The first pictures I posted, before they were painted, showed them next to pens and a mouse.

Aw, thank you! *blushes* Am v pleased to hear that they inspire that reaction, as they're meant to draw people in to the exhibit!

Oh yes, the trouble will be if folks can get close enough to pocket one. o_0 But now that I've crawled in & around your latest posts, I notice a few bits missing--where are the baby spacecrafts' whiskers? Can it be a proper kitty cat spacecraft w/o its feelers? O.O

It isn't quite right without its whiskers, no. Especially since the magnetometer (our instrument) is on the end of one of them! But we thought they would be too delicate & likely to get broken after being handled by hundreds of people.
