I'm really bad at being ill. [20101214|20:53]
Mad Scientess Jane Expat

Dear self:

Yes, the bloke is on the wrong side of the Atlantic. Yes, you have strep and a cold. But just because you're lonely and sick doesn't mean you should be living on herbal tea, satsumas, bananas, soup and popcorn. You need to eat a proper meal. You will order a takeaway tomorrow if you're still unable to cook.

PS You're out of popcorn, anyway.

Dear cats:

You are cute and fluffy and it's nice to have you on the bed to keep me company. It is not helpful, however, when you lie on top of the speaker phone when I'm in the middle of a telecon.

Dear self, again:

STOP WORKING or you won't get better. Go and watch the IT Crowd, mmkay?

Terminate that VPN connection. No really. Now.

Instinctively cats realize that the phone or laptop is the center of the conference and therefore the center of your universe. Why it needs sitting on remains a mystery, but it says a lot about cats.

Perhaps because they generate warmth? More than my feet, anyway.

Has to be more than that. Your lap is surely more comfortable. No, I think it's a matter of establishing ownership. If they could shout "P3wnd!" as they sat on your conference phone, they would.

Is it bad that I find your diet of soup, bananas, satsumas and popcorn to be perfectly reasonable sick food? Ha ha! I guess some more protein would be a good thing. I hope you feel better soon!

I could probably get the cats to bring me a bird as supplemental protein! I'm definitely better today, thank you. I may even be able to get further than halfway to the train station tomorrow.

It's truly amazing what cats can find to be comfortable and lay on!

And I would bet that your body is pretty good about telling you what you need...

And I'd never heard of satsumas until now, but they look yummy!

Hope you feel better soon!

I like it when the cats get so involved in stretching and being cute that they fall off stuff. Sputnik does this regularly on the sofa.

Satsumas are one of the best things about winter. And thank you!

You just need more practice. [G,D&RVVF]

The one thing I haven't had so far this year is 'flu. I expect to be contracting that at some point as well.
