The Round Church, Cambridge

Whenever I walk into town, I pass this little old round church. Apparently there are very few round churches in Western Europe, which makes this one even more charming. Until this weekend, I'd never gone inside since it always seemed to be shut. dizzykj was up visiting us this weekend and she proved to be a good-luck charm. When we ambled into town on Saturday, the door was open. I got to go inside and photograph the small but perfectly formed circular Norman nave, built around AD 1130.

Oh yes! They're impressive without being overwhelming. It feels quite snug and welcoming inside.

Wow. I always am amazed at how square/round/perfectly divided things are. I do realize these things were not built by cavemen, but they were built without the use of power tools

Yes. I get angry enough when I paint something and it turns out the perspective is wrong when I step back from it. I can't imagine spending a week putting up a pillar only to discover it needed to move two inches to the left.

Thanks for the picture. I visited this place in '98 and was amazed by how small and beautiful it was. Your pictures do it credit.

Thank you. Oh, for a full frame sensor to get in the whole dome! My wide-angle couldn't quite do it.
