|It's winter in Cambridgeshire
Mad Scientess Jane Expat
I woke this morning and looked out the window into the back garden to see if I would be commuting to work today.
Snow says no.
Part of the garden fence blew down in the winds. The kittens took one look at the snow and shot back inside. I cleared off the bird feeder since it was coated in snow and ice. Sputnik & Telstar have been sitting on the kitchen windowsill, snug and warm, to watch the show.
Jealous! Can't wait for some good snow lovin' when I'm in London 12/24-26 with the fam.
The odds on a white Christmas are higher than they've been in years! Are you only in town 24-26? I would suggest dropping by here (Cambridge) but without the trains & tube running, it would be...challenging.
Yeah, we're headed off to the Costa del Sol on the 26th and back to Hong Kong on the 1st. I have ~4 hours in town again on my way back (13th), but I don't think that's enough time to do much of anything in town :(
...speaking of tricky transportation, what, do you think, is the best way to get around when I'll be there?
Awe. That's too bad. No, four hours wouldn't be enough if you're coming through Heathrow. As soon as you got into town you'd have to turn around and get back on the train.
You'll be able to use the Underground and buses on the 24th and the 26th. On Christmas day, however, there are no tube, tram or bus services in operation. You'll have to book minicabs or hail black cabs on the street if you want to go anywhere. Or walk!
I advise buying yourself a London A-Z as soon as you arrive. It has detailed street maps and a tube map built in. It's well worth owning, as it is terribly easy to get lost here.
Fresh coating last night, so it still looks great. Yay!
We had snow in Montana. It has melted off some of the roads.
send me your mailing addy (home or work) so I can send you some pictures (use firstname.lastname@example.org which forwards to my email).
The roads in Cambridge seem to have been gritted pretty well, so the roads are clear even if everywhere else is buried.
Sent you my work addy. Thanks very much!
