Double-glazing is BRILLIANT. [20091015|17:59]

Old Window OutNew Window In

When the window fitters ripped out the old windows, one of them knocked on the door to the room in which the kittens and I were sheltering from the dust. "Just wanted to show you this," he said, holding up a piece of rolled-up newspaper. "Your windows were last replaced in 1979."

Those newspapers spent thirty years providing stunningly inadequate insulation between our walls and our single-pane windows. It is so much quieter in the house now, even though the downstairs windows won't be replaced until tomorrow.

Three cheers for obscured glass

I am so excited about taking showers without being visible from the neighbour's gardens.

So much more light!

Excellent. Here's to windows that do not function like vents!

It's amazing. When I go to shower, I don't feel the freezing air when I'm still a foot away from the window.

hurray for shiny new windows! and for old newspapers, it's always interesting to find these things in unexpected places.

I'll have to save a few bits of it. The font was so different then, and so were the adverts.

We have double glazed sash windows - draft central! We put foam strips round all the possible draft outlets/inlets and all we got was mould on the bathroom ceiling...

Oh man I hate mould in the bathroom. I have breathed enough bleach for a lifetime already. Gah.

Changing anything in listed buildings is a pain in the butt, right?

It's definitely warmer! But with all the clanging and sawing downstairs, not a lot quieter til this weekend, I think. :-)
