Ophelia & the Prince in the Trees

Ophelia & the Prince in the Trees

Materials: 2 24"x24" canvases, acrylic paints & gels, sand, medium-format Holga photos

So the cut was placed to allow you to choose whether or not you wanted to know how these paintings developed and what they mean to me.

These began their lives as the end pieces to an enlargement of Shattered City. I quickly discovered that the centrepiece of the enlargement did just fine on its own, and these two began to evolve separately. Before I could get too lost in adding layers and textures, I decided to add the two photos, which gave them their identities. I took both with my medium-format Holga camera (slide film provided by taische). The surfaces of these canvases are very glossy, so it was difficult to take photos without inducing a lot of flash reflections.

This piece is mostly a message to myself about how much healthier I am when I don't expect to be rescued.
