[with a hint of |Rammstein - Du Hast]

Our team has weekly meetings with our PI to discuss calibration and operations issues for the magnetometer. I spend a lot of time preparing for these meetings because she's incredibly busy and I know I have her ear for about 10 minutes before we've got to move on to the next order of business.

I walked into the meeting room today to find a white-haired man with a large mustache. My PI said, "Ah! You haven't met nanila, have you." The white-haired man, who happens to be an Extremely Important Man, proffered a hand and said, "No, but I know who she is."

I think I might have rushed back to the office to delete all evidence of myself from the internets if he'd said that.

Yes, he didn't say it in a menacing way. Then again, neither did he seem inclined to elaborate. I am left in suspense.

Yes, but my reputation for what? Throwing parties that involve getting a lot of very intelligent and well-respected physicists very drunk and then taking pictures? Or being a diligent, responsible and essential member of the team?

He failed to elaborate further, so I am left wondering for what contributions my name is being bandied about.

I don't really understand why, I must say. My position is fairly low profile - ops jobs are all guts and no glory, which is the way I like it.
