Heads up: the Hubble cats are letting the public pick where the telescope will point. They've put up six candidates for the vote. Go here to cast yours online by 1 March. They have a short video that explains what the images are.

I totally voted for the interacting galaxies. Once a dynamicist, always a dynamicist. Even if the time scale is about 1018 what it was when I studied chemical dynamics.

Spread the word! And tell me what you voted for.

Yessum. And I got my coworker in on it. We both ended up voting for the interacting galaxies.

Hurrah! Dynamics ftw.

I voted for the interacting galaxies just because... well, the other ones it's just like, bla bla, nebula, galaxy, nebula, galaxy... HEY WAIT HERE'S TWO GALAXIES CRASHING INTO EACH OTHER!

Highly technical, I know.

I know, dueling galaxies. Maybe one will consume the other.

How do you think I got into dynamics in the first place? My favourite part of chemistry was always the explosions.

I voted interaction too. It seemed most likely to generate some interesting data.

Yes, the others seem a lot like they're mostly aesthetically pleasing choices, particularly the spiral galaxy.

The edge-on spiral galaxy, though, looked like it could be quite interesting as well.

I had to vote for the star-forming region. I was thinking the planet nebula but that would be the easy goth answer...

Hurrah! Well, I'll try, but remember, I'm not an astronomer.

Interacting galaxies for me! That is, I voted for interacting galaxies, not that they're interacting solely for me. Although maybe they are. Should I feel guilty about that, I wonder.

And now the universe will further rearrange itself for my entertainment...

Boiling orbs of gas, crashing into each other very, very slowly! Awesome.

I was going to vote for your mom, but I had to settle for interacting galaxies. I wonder if that silly spiral is still in first...

I suspect the thing that attracted people to the spiral was his mention of the arms being the place where stars are born.

I went with the star forming region.

Both edge on and interacting galaxies were definitely considered and I shan't be upset if one of them wins.

To be honest, I think any of them would be great, as I'm sure a considerable amount of effort was put into ensuring that all the choices were scientifically viable.

I went for the interacting galxies too. Everything else looked less interesting.

Yes. The other choices seemed pedestrian to me in comparison, except possibly for the edge-on galaxy, as that's quite an unusually specific perspective.

Interacting galaxies it is... the choice is currently in first place. Yay, dynamics!!!
