Berlin, Propeller Island [20081117|10:22]

Oh hai intertubes

I've been meaning to post the pictures from our stay in the lovely art hotel Propeller Island in Berlin for nearly two months now. Above, you see me the morning after our arrival, wherein I have just woken up and am both tired and ill. I am, however, also very happy and in my favourite tiny black dress.

The Chair. The bloke inspects our beds' workings.

We slept like babies in that bed. The mattress wasn't fancy, just a thick foam pad. But for some reason, being so far away from the ceiling, the gentle sound of crickets from the sound system and the cool orange light in the room lulled us both into excessively relaxed states of mind.

Stepping out

The bloke is coming out of the bathroom here. This was the only bit of the room of which we didn't entirely approve. The shower consisted of a simple overhead spout and a circular rail from which a black PVC shower curtain hung. When you turned on the water, the curtain got sucked towards you. Neither of us found that pleasant.

Light & sound system controls

I had a Red Dwarf moment when I saw these.
Rimmer: Now this three-dimensional sculpture in particular is quite exquisite. Its simplicity, its bold, stark lines... pray, what do you call it?
Legion: The light switch.
Rimmer: Ah... I couldn't buy it, then?
Legion: Not really. I need it to turn the lights on and off.

Huh. I just dun know what to think. I'd have a hard time not thinking, "cheeky buggers'r just trying to make money whilst they renovate", but at the same time, I hate the slick 'sameness' of a normal hotel stay, so. Apparently I'm unpleasable. ;)

Heh. If you'd seen it yourself, you might think more highly of the decor. It doesn't help that my photos aren't great because I didn't have a tripod (ISO 1600 + flash aversion = blurry).

Also, the corridors and breakfast room were pretty fantastic, but I didn't want to go round with my dSLR taking pictures because they were a bit touchy about photos.

I'm glad we stayed there once, but I don't know that I'd do it again. The location wasn't great for accessing the metro or the bits of town we were interested in. Plus it was expensive. Also, we stayed in a fairly generic, cheap, central hotel in Vienna, and (although part of me hates to admit this) we enjoyed that more.
