|Word of the Day, or Dude. Use "exogenesis" next time.

Panspermia, n: the hypothesis that "seeds" of life exist already all over the Universe, that life on Earth may have originated through these "seeds", and that they may deliver or have delivered life to other habitable bodies.
The Icy Satellites section in the Saturn After Cassini book is likely to include this word in the discussion of the biological implications of the chemical composition of Enceladus.
Why do I get the feeling this word was dreamed up by the same people who decided it was a good idea to name one of the spatial parameters of an ellipse the "semi-latus rectum"? Because, you know, that's totally not going to send whole hordes of otherwise serious-minded people into paroxysms of puerile giggling.
