A Tale of a Spacecraft

The organizers at the centre (IntoUniversity) where I gave my "Why Scientific Research is Awesome" talk last week sent me a few pictures of me while I was talking. I learned a few things from the images. First of all, I gesture in the manner above a lot (arms straight down and hands out from my sides). Second, it makes me look a bit silly. On a positive note, though, the pictures show that I had the attention of nearly all of them for the whole thing.

The British are a bit funny about publishing images of children, but I figure since this is my private space it's okay.

Oh, it's so satisfying. I wish I could do it more often, but it takes way too much time to prepare and to travel and it's exhausting, so once a month is probably the maximum I could manage and still do my full-time job.

Star Blazers is outside my cultural experience, but thanks to the miracle of the interwebs I can now say that I like that comparison!

Sorry...

If you'd still had the dreads, you would have completely blown their minds...

Nice pants, btw.

Re: Sorry...

Srsly. Even if science isn't cool, it has a nice ass.

I miss the dreads. But I also like having my hair petted. Also, Imperial is incredibly conservative. The looniest we get are the mathematicians with the floofy hair and the sandals-with-socks combo. Otherwise it's business casual all the way. Bah.

That teaching lark looks pretty neat.

I saw this today and thought it might interest you: (http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=319212&source=rss_news10)

I'm not sure I agree with everything in the "diving catch" section (though the phenomenon certainly exists) but generalisations like that always annoy me. :)
