Mad Scientess Jane Expat
This will probably only mean something to crusty old rivetheads like me, but tonight, I am going to see Einstuerzende Neubauten play live, for the first time. I won't bore you with the details of the ludicrous number of scheduling clashes that have prevented me from seeing them prior to this in my 15 years of being a rivethead, but suffice it to say it's been almost as frustrating as Nine Inch Nails' new tour beginning in Vancouver BC the week after I depart from Seattle for my annual visit.
Nur die halbe Welt ist Teflon und Asbest - der Rest ist brennbar.
(Only half the world is Teflon and asbestos - the rest is burnable.)
Grah! *fists in the air*
(Favourite album: Haus der Luege. Streaming audio for one lovely track.)
I am jealous. My first exposure to them was Halber Mensch (I know, I know), so I'm partial to that.
What's wrong with Halber Mensch?!

You're a Failed Rivethead??
While I have seen Einstuerzende Neubauten perform once, I have yet to see Nine Inch Nails perform live. Hell, I've only seen Front 242 1 1/2 times (I barely count when they were with that one festival with the funny name that will not be mentioned by me).
So there you have it, I'm worse than you...sleep well!
I saw Nine Inch Nails. In, er, 1995. And I nearly missed 242's set when they played in LA with Projekt Pitchfork in, um, 1999? Because of traffic.
Seeing those dates written down makes me feel old.
Project Pitchfork...the only uber-badass-yet-tender-moments-abound show I've ever been to in my life. They had a great pit but once I paid attention to the lyrics, I felt all sappy and loving...
Will do! It's a family occasion, too - the bloke's sister & brother-in-law are fanchildren. :-)
Oh, so, so jealous. I missed them in college in '92 or something and said, "Well, it's New York, they'll be back next year." AND THEN THEY WEREN'T.
The closed I've gotten is seeing Blixa play with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds a few times. Which was awesome but... not entirely the same.
It was better than I had anticipated. They had all manner of fantastic toys on stage. A bulldozer scoop full of metal pipes, which they let fall periodically. A metal slinky stretched out on a pole and played with a wire brush. A vibrator as a replacement for a guitar pick. And of course, Blixa's magnificent primal shriek.
I'm a happy nanila
Now I must go and find some more of my stuff by them.
Yes. Especially "Alles", which they played at the end of the first encore. Magnificent.
Jealous!! Wave at Blixa for me.
Done! Although I think it might have been with my fist. Sorry if that wasn't what you had in mind.
