Watford v Leeds game in Cardiff today, and he shot what is possibly the most awesome video of an English football fan in the full grip of post-goal hysteria that I have ever seen. This was taken directly after Watford's third goal. It's only 15 seconds long. Watch it. You won't be sorry. I promise.Marco went to the |
that gave me chills--the sheer intensity of human emotion...
Winning the game for them meant moving from the Championship League to the Premiership (the top league in the country) next year, so they were even more excitable than usual, yup.

Wowsers, and from such a sedate-looking fellow too.
The fans are completely insane about football here. I think it's where they pour all that energy they used to need for conquering other countries. ;-P
Good heavens. Was he the fellow making the continued huaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa shout in the same tone at the beginning?
Actually, I think that was probably coming from Marco. The microphone on that camera doesn't have a very good range.
There something I read about the signalling of the end of the post-modern era that was interesting the other day, but I can't remember what the specifics were or why this reminded me of that. But I think a video posted by someone I feel like I know but have never met on the other side of the world of a crazy guy at a football match has something to with it.
I think I understand. It's amazing, isn't it, being able to share the experience of living in a foreign country by showing snippets of it to friends and family, practically in real time.
Imagine meeting that crowd in a dark alley with the wrong shirt on after a disappointing loss.
According to Marco, the Watford fans were fairly sedate - if you can call singing and screaming with excitement and elation on the four-hour train ride from London to Cardiff and back again "sedate." In any case, they didn't look like they were going to start any fights. The Leeds fans, on the other hand, were mental. But they are Northerners (and therefore, pugilists). Watford fans are mostly Southerners (and therefore, pansies).
Hey - unrelated to the thread, but I'll be headed out to London for work in 3ish weeks for a week, and then for another trip for a couple weeks a little after that ... get a hold of me if you'd like to say hi ... I think you've got my e-mail ...
Yay! I'd love to have dinner or something and catch up. I sent you an e-mail at your HMC address. If that's not active then let me know and I'll use the other one I've got.
