i like the contrast but I wish I could see this nice and printed out rather than on a squidgy monitor. :P

Yeah, squishing it down to 400x341, plus the additional hit it takes being uploaded to the LJ scrapbook rather than Flickr, makes it a bit fuzzy. I'll print it next time I head over to SnappySnaps and bring it to Edinburgh. ;-)

Man, I wish I could find that guy ripperlyn and I saw on Chinese new year in Chinatown. He was shimmying up and down lamp-posts with the ease of a monkey, collecting paper lanterns.

Here's hoping that he won't be gone long and that the days pass quickly.

... a very nice manipulation of the background and image overall; I especially like the almost collage-like feel that you got.

Stay happy.

It's two weeks. I have a lot planned so I hope I don't get too lonely, although I always have trouble sleeping when he's away, which isn't good as I'm not so great at > 6 hours/night normally anyway. (It tends to drop to 4 when I'm alone.)

Thank you. I'm happy with the effect I got, especially considering that this was taken with the aged point-and-shoot digital. I've been getting all bunged up recently with the dSLR - not "loosened up" creatively, so to speak. So I'm using my older, less flexible toys. I've also ordered a replacement Supersampler and a Polaroid to help myself be more spontaneous.

You have my sympathy.
Keeping busy should help, I hope it does.

The sleeping thing is harder. I use cats so as not to be alone at night, because we have four of them, but I'm afraid I don't have much more in the way of advice. Lots of pillows, maybe.

Oh, and try not to think of it as the whole two weeks, just do little bits at a time.

C.

You have made Marco look tres cool.

I have the same problem sleeping on my own in our bed (even when he's home and just pulling a PS2 all nighter). I try to trick myself into thinking I'm not alone in bed by piling on extra blankets and thick socks to make it warmer and toastier. Usually the first couple of nights don't go so well, but by the fourth or fifth I'm sleeping in starfish formation with a 'whole-bed-to-myself' grin on my face. If I'm still tossing and turning by this stage I find a night on the couch with the tv left on sometimes helps as well.

I'm sure the days will fly by before you know it.

I think this is very sage advice. I hadn't thought of breaking it up that way. Along with the bit about the pillows. Maybe if I arrange them around my back, since I usually sleep in the fetal position, it would help.

It's just very experienced advice :-(
Having something to cuddle into, even if it's only pillows, does make it easier I've found.

Having a small camera is nice for casual pics - people react differently to them.

Yeah, I'm actually thinking of upgrading phones when the new Nokias come out. People are so accustomed to those that they scarcely notice when you point one at them. Polaroids are great for that too, because then everybody gets to pass it around.

I haven't found a way to get people to relax in social situations when I whip out the dSLR. They're like WHOA BIG CAMERA and their faces tighten up. Even the vain and vampy ones don't seem to like it. Besides, using it withdraws me from sociability as well.

You say that like it's a disadvantage!

I think that the only way to get casual with a dSLR is to start taking photos that you don't particularly want to get people used to having it around, and that doesn't always work.

You should consider doing album covers. Imminent Departure looks like a hit.

Ooh. Thank you. I'll take you up on that at some point. Although the loop-walking project is scheduled to take up most of the time before I head to Edinburgh. Gotta keep busy, keep wearing myself out physically so I get sleep. Ten-plus miles of walking per day will do that, I think. :-)

Go*d, it's beautiful. The colours, the deliciously dark tones, the muzzy street lamps. ...the fact that he's not lined up square at you...Even the jagged edge to the left of the shot gives it...well, and edgey look. Heh. Love it.

Someone earlier mentioned taking it in small steps--not two weeks, but three days until such & such event, two days after til' coffee with so n' so...this always helps me when I'm overwhelmed, either with a task, or missing someone. Take care of yourself, ok? *squeeze*

Wow. Thank you. You know, originally I was going to make this b/w but then I was messing around with the channel mixing during post-processing and the blue thing happened and I loved it.

And yes, I'll be listening to C. She is very wise. *hugs back*

Ha! Aw, baby-faced Dan Akroyd.

(P.S. I don't think I actually commented on the post except in my head, so let me just say now that I really enjoyed the daffodil-with-clinging-dewdrops photo you took. :-))

Yeah, wow, that is a really cool picture. All the lights, and the two people just right on the sidewalk. Sorry sweetie. Does sound like you have a lot going on to keep you occupied and everyone's given good advice on the coping. Very impressed with this walking thing and your energy; when I'm blue I just mope and hang at home watching tv...very impressed.
