I took my Olympus E300 into the City this morning because the weather is so beautiful. This is the really old bit of London, the bit that the Romans built and Boadecia sacked and the Saxons invaded. It's where all the banks and the stock exchange reside. It also has a weekday population of around 300,000 and a weekend population of less than 8,000.

Click for the gallery (10 images). I'm using this image because I got yelled at by an officious security guard for taking it. I apologized with greatest insincerity, since there were absolutely no signs, gates or any other indications that photography was not allowed in the area. And I'm wreaking my petty vengeance by putting it on the internet. Ha.

I've always loved the quietness of the city on weekends. May I recommend to you Peter Ackroyd's London: The Biography? It's a terrific read for someone who wants to 'feel' London.

You know, I think we had/have that somewhere, but I don't know what happened to it. It disappeared before I got to read it. I've been enjoying The London Encyclopaedia, although it's not really a narrative. I reference it when I'm curious about a place or a building, which is often, so I've read quite a bit of it.

You know, that was my favorite one too. I almost posted it to texture, but I'm still kind of timid about sharing with big photo comms.

Great photos, I love the one of Wren's column.

Have you posted anything to futurecity?

Thanks!

I haven't posted to futurecity. I'm a bit timid about posting to large photo communities. There are people there who clearly know what they're doing, and I still feel I only sort of know what I'm doing. :-P

I feel that way about posting photo coms, but I think as you get more confident in your technique, it might be good to get more feedback.

That Alan Moore. He sure does know how to crawl up in your brain and leave things there.
