me: ooh!

My grandfather would have been ninety-two yesterday. I miss him desperately. I've been painting madly all week. I want to share the results but I'm not finished yet. Every day, I wish I could show my work to him. He'd take my brush from me and show me what needed to be done in about two minutes. "Like that," he'd say. And he'd be right.

And now, Collapse )
me: ooh!

The Irish Republican Army has decommissioned its arsenal.

All of it.

So why don't I have any confidence that this will end the sectarian violence in Northern Ireland? Gee, do you think it could have anything to do with the loyalist paramilitaries failing to disarm simultaneously? Or perhaps that the Provisional IRA has disarmed, but certain factions *coughRealIRAcough* probably haven't? Or that the disarmament process wasn't fully transparent (no photos of the decommissioning)?
