|Friday's Unscientific Poll: Raisins
Mad Scientess Jane Expat
This is generally how I feel about raisins in things:
I do not understand why you feel the need to put raisins in my muesli/scone/cookie/salad. They were acceptable without raisins. If I wanted raisins I would buy a box of raisins.
Raisins make a wonderful addition to many foods. Yay, raisins!
I have the following additions to make regarding my feelings about raisins:
Sorry ... absolutely love them!!! ;-)
My friend calls them "surprises" or "flies", though. *lol*
They evoke strong reactions. I haven't met too many people who are indifferent to raisins.
Literally the only food I've ever found that I don't like. I think the thing that bothers me the most is that for some reason, people don't feel the need to mention raisins. It's infuriating. If someone puts apples and blueberries in a pie, they'll say 'this is an apple-blueberry pie' - they would never dream of not mentioning the blueberries. But if they put apples and raisins in a pie, they'll just say, 'this is an apple pie'. Er, no, it's an apple-raisin pie. Why do people think it's okay to leave that out? It's not like it's an insignificant difference.
Same with cinnamon rolls and carrot cake - if it's carrot-raisin cake then that should be disclosed. Nothing worse than eating a delicious piece of carrot cake and suddenly finding several squishy turds in your mouth. Again, no need to make it without raisins, make it however you want, just describe it accurately so that I can avoid the cake altogether if you've deliberately ruined it.
I am 100% behind the "Declare Your Raisins/No More Stealth Fucking Raisins Please" initiative.
Raisins or sultanas?
Sultanas are delicious and welcome any time. Raisins less so.
I'm not in favour of either but sultanas win out over raisins unless they have also gone undeclared.
