This is N/A to me

But following getting their University degrees:

when my daughter applied for the job that she is currently doing her employer contacted her references and also asked for the names and contact details of her supervising professors at the University, and he contacted them as well.

When my son applied for his job his employer didn't contact his references.

Thanks for adding to the anecdata! I find the variability in approach to references quite interesting, as it's not always correlated to type or level of position.
