Poll #2048404 Raw onions

When presented with raw onions in a dish, I

think, "Yum!" and eat them with pleasure.
7(46.7%)
am indifferent.
3(20.0%)
think, "Oh no!" and pick them out.
5(33.3%)

This poll brought to you by the aggravating experience of being ambushed by a small pocket of raw onion hidden in a burger I was otherwise enjoying, right at the very end. I do not like raw onion in my food. Cooked/caramelised onion: fine! Raw onion, I don't understand. If I eat raw onion, I can taste nothing but onion for the rest of the meal, and sometimes for an hour afterward, even if I've brushed my teeth.

Conflicted

Though i wholeheartedly agree all onions should die, i do tend to eat them on the premise theyre supposedly good for you and/or bc sometimes they suit the food item. That said, onions should die.

I really love raw onion. Especially raw red onion. I'll eat handfuls of it with handfuls of grated cheese and be happy forever.

I am envious of your tolerance.

Interesting choice of words - the extra daft thing is that my body is actually rather intolerant to onions, but my mouth and brain love them so much I refuse to stay away.

Caveat: Only when accompanied by poppadum or cheese sandwich.

I can understand those two, even if I can't go along with them myself.

*hangs head in Shame* I'm afraid I am an Onion Lover. Not, like, on their own - that'd be crazy - but in salad, or in a burger or somesuch, I find them Delicious.

Although it has to be said, that, as I age, I find more and more things Delicious ;)

Heh! I think some strong flavours become easier to tolerate with aging. I used to be completely chilli-intolerant, and now I like moderately hot things.

Small amounts of raw onion, especially if very thinly sliced, can be quite a nice addition. But not large quantities.

Have you tried them soaked in lemon juice? Some raw-onion-eaters on DW suggested this.
