[the weather today is |baffled]

One of the oddest things Humuhumu asks for is to eat a piece of raw dried pasta (fusilli, usually).

All of her teeth have come in, so I don't think she's doing it because it feels great on her gums. She will also eat cooked pasta, but she seems to think that the raw stuff is a special treat. I'm curious to know if this is a common thing, as I don't recall ever thinking that raw dried pasta was tasty, or for that matter, raw fresh pasta. Thus, today's Unscientific Poll!

Don't get me wrong: I have eaten raw dry pasta (and will again, no doubt), but it's mostly as a crunchy-then-chewy something. If I can cook it, BY THE GODS I WILL COOK IT!!

Heh, yes, it has never occurred to me to eat it raw when I could cook it. I can see how the texture might appeal - probably a bit like crisps? - but in that case, if I had crisps (and I nearly always have crisps squirreled away somewhere), I will eat crisps. :P

I used to do that all the time when I was little - totally forgot about that!

Huh! I wonder what gets it started? Some people on DW have mentioned that it's a texture rather than a flavour thing.

When kids are really hungry they will want anything to eat! They cant wait for a cooked meal by that point so hurry!

There's probably an element of that involved as well. Usually the request comes when she knows dinner is being cooked. It's not the only thing she'll ask for - she loves raisins/dried fruits and biscuits too - but because she knows where the jar of pasta is and can see it on the counter, it gets a look in. :)
